Arriving at the stunning Layer Marney Tower, a Tudor Palace built to impress Henry VIII,
you will be led from your transport to the Long Gallery, once the Tudor stables, for coffee.
After coffee it’s time to explore the house, visiting rooms not normally open to visitors, for this is a family home and
you will see it decorated for a family Christmas, with sparkling lights and towering trees, candles and log
fires. Leading you from room to room, your Guide will tell you tales from Tudor times to the present
day, giving you a little background history as well as some family secrets.
Your Christmas lunch will be service in the magnificent medieval Essex Barn, now insulated and with
underfloor heating thanks to a much appreciated Covid Recovery Grant(#hereforculture).
After lunch, the tables will be cleared and the room reset by the actors for their performance of the
Christmas play, The Tailor of Gloucester.
Once the play has finished you will be led by the actors across the Courtyard back to the Long Gallery for
mulled wine and mince pies, a little retail therapy and a chance to sing some well known carols ably
assisted by the cast. They hope to wave you off full of festive food and cheer,
ready to prepare your own Christmas celebrations.
