Thank you for a lovely day.  Our children thoroughly enjoyed themselves and learned a lot about the lives of Anglo Saxons

A Chelmsford Junior School – Anglo Saxons, November 2018

Our trip was both enjoyable (for children and adults) and educational.  For my “busy” class, it was just the right mix of content with facts-a-plenty (we loved the stuffed dormice!), practical activities and real life stories.  The ladies who led the sessions were not only friendly and approachable but also very knowledgeable about the Roman era – this was evident in how and what they presented to the class. Both had fabulous skills in dealing with my SEND children, with that extra compassion and  patience.  Thank you.

Highlights included food tasting, tiger catching, rabbit hooking, becoming gladiators and of course…the adventure playground and grass maze!! Thanks Layer Marney for a thoroughly enjoyable and educational day.

Essex Primary School – Romans, November 2018

Thank you very much for the Roman day at Layer Marney Tower. Both Y3 and Y4 enjoyed themselves and gained further knowledge on the Romans.  The activities were “hands on” and involved all members of the class.

We all had a fantastic day

Y3 and Y4 Teacher – November 2018

Harlow Primary School – Romans November 2018

Enjoyed going to visit the church and grounds.  The children loved all the activities – like the coloured fire and flame experiment in the glass jar.

It was very well organised and because we were contained it felt very safe.

Lovely buildings and a great trip – thank you.

Tiptree Primary School – Great Fire of London, October 2018

A Harwich Primary School – Tudors

A thoroughly enjoyable day.  The children enjoyed making their Viking boats and were very proud to show their parents.  Archery was also a highlight.

The visit enhanced their learning of the Vikings.  It was very organised and suitable for Year 3.  Thank you.

A Maldon Primary School – Vikings

The day was a fantastic experience for the year group.  As we were studying the Tudors, to be able to walk around the grounds and into several buildings was brilliant.  The guides that we had were extremely helpful and knowledgeable, answering questions and providing history lessons on the subject we chose.  I would recommend Layer Marney Tower as it was a great educational day out and everyone really enjoyed the experience.

Year 5 Class Teacher

Essex Primary School – Tudors

The children absolutely loved the fact they could actually touch, hold and try on the knight’s clothing and armour. The archery was a huge success, as was climbing the spiral staircase to the top of the Tower.

Hilary and Jackie were both great and their knowledge and enthusiasm really helped to make the day so successful.  the adults all enjoyed it too.

Essex Primary School – Tudors

Our children thoroughly enjoyed their day and loved the ‘yucky’ details of Tudor life shared.  Good range of Tudor activities offered. Thank you!

Suffolk Primary School – Tudor Day

Loved the addition of the lambs being fed, a great extra to add to the children’s experience.  Thank you all for a super day!

Colchester Prep School – Tudor Day

“Although I would love to be constructive, there is very little I can suggest as to how to have improved the day we spent with you.  The children were fascinated and fully engaged at all times. Without a doubt, we would recommend you to anyone after a historical, educational and fun experience.  Hilary and Jackie were fantastic guides.  Thank you greatly”

Year 4/5 Class Teacher

Heybridge Primary School – Vikings

We have just got back from our trip and the kids were smiling and very happy following their adventure to Layer Marney Tower.  I thought I would take the time to say thank your for your help organising, presenting and inspiring the children.  Jackie and Hilary were superb guides.  They immediately gained the children’s respect and presented the information in an informative and engaging way.  I thoroughly enjoyed myself too, as did the other staff.

Year 5 Teacher, Canvey Island Primary School – Tudors

“Another fantastic visit.  The children were fully engaged and enjoyed the level of detail.  Thank you!

Viking Day – January 2018

We visited last year and the experience was very good.  However, this year the experience was even better due to the change in activities.  The archaeological dig was very informative (delivered by Hilary) as well as the afternoon talk (and handling of wooly mammoth tusks and bones etc).  Hilary was very well informed and engaged all children with her extensive knowledge of the past and the Stone Age.

Well done Hilary – we will definitely be be booking again next year.

Junior School, Wivenhoe – Stone Age Britain

The organisation of the whole day was fantastic, all activities were enjoyed by all of the children and everyone learned so much about the Vikings.

Thank you

Chelmsford Primary School Teacher – November 2017

Everyone was very impressed today – pupils and adults alike.  We have some challenging pupils and to see so many of the often disinterested or easily distracted children so engaged, was very impressive.  The look on their faces as they experienced the building and environment was lovely to see.  In terms of recommendations? !  The whole day was so enjoyable, interesting and fulfilling that I cannot imagine that anything else could be included or improved.  We all loved it.  Thank you so much.

Year 4 Teacher

Essex Primary School – Tudors, June 2017 visit

Our class had a fantastic day at Layer Marney.  Our tour up the Tower was brilliant, the guide was informative and fun with great control of the classes. We chose food, medicine and games – our favourite session was the games as it was the most practical.  Lots of new information learned by all.  Would definitely return.

We loved the day!  The children were inspired and excited by everything they took part in.  The day was well paced and the staff were fantastic!!  Our children were thrilled by the trip and the work they produced once back in school, displayed clearly how much they enjoyed it.  Thank you so much Layer Marney Tower

Course taken – George and the Dragon

Essex Primary School – June 2017

I came to this lovely peaceful place as part of a school trip on Tuesday.  1.  Beautiful setting  2.  Age appropriate activities  3. Organised staff  4.  Interesting and informative.  Just want to say that the children’s feedback said it all, they wrote about the trip with enthusiasm and remembered the detail.  Some of the adjectives used were, fun, fantastic, interesting, they are only KS1 but the age appropriate activities were just right for them and they had a great day.  I, on return, recommended this place to people.  Well done to the staff and thanks for a lovely day out.
