In 2016 we were delighted to have been given a Sandford Award. This is an independently judged and quality assured award for education in heritage sites. Some of the others to be given a Sandford Award the same year were; Beaulieu, Durham Cathedral, The Fitzwilliam Museum and Kensington Palace. The judge summed up her report saying “The day is well-paced, varied and includes many learning styles. The chldren are actively involved and encouraged to relate to what they have studied in school to the history of the site. The teachers can be assured of a warm welcome, a well organised day and a first rate learning experience for their pupils”.
Built in the 1520’s by Henry, Lord Marney, Privy Councillor to Henry VII and Henry VIII, he accompanied Henry VIII to the Field of the Cloth of Gold, we are an ideal place to come and learn about Tudor life. However, we can offer more, providing days covering; Stone Age, Bronze Age, Iron Age, Romans, Vikings, Anglo Saxons, Normans, Medieval, Egyptians, and Greeks.

I came to this lovely peaceful place as part of a school trip on Tuesday. 1. Beautiful setting 2. Age appropriate activities 3. Organised staff 4. Interesting and informative. Just want to say that the children’s feedback said it all, they wrote about the trip with enthusiasm and remembered the detail. Some of the adjectives used were, fun, fantastic, interesting, they are only KS1 but the age appropriate activities were just right for them and they had a great day. I, on return, recommended this place to people. Well done to the staff and thanks for a lovely day out.
“A wonderful day; enjoyed by all of the children. They especially loved the archery! The facilitator was incredibly knowledgeable and made learning fun for the children. Many thanks for a wonderful day”
