Layer Marney Tower can be hired as a film and television location. Midway between Colchester and Chelmsford and within easy reach of London it is a perfect backdrop for filming. The Tower itself is ideal for Tudor history, but there is woodland, parkland and formal gardens available. We welcome film crews and have ample parking and facilities.
The Woman in Black, 2012
Layer Marney Tower is often used as a film location, obviously suitable for Tudor epics, but we have had an eclectic mix of filming – television, films and advertisements. Pasolini filmed Canterbury Tales in the Tower. The Woman in Black, featuring Harry Potter star Daniel Radcliffe, began its sinister journey here, with private drawing room turned into a bedroom, coffin to one side.
BBC and Channel 4 Productions
The Time Team have dug, Most Haunted have hunted for ghosts. Fiona Bruce bottle fed our lambs on the BBC Antiques Road Show and Flog It! filmed a stream of much loved antiques uncovered in the lofts and attics of Essex, ready to make a few pounds for their owners. We have featured in Country Life, Tatler and many other august publications.
