Your Wedding Reception in the Long Gallery
With oak panelling, fine tapestries, a Jacobean fireplace and huge glittering chandeliers, the Long Gallery is the perfect backdrop for your Wedding Reception. Whether you treat it as a blank canvas, decorating it with flowers, favours, chair covers, candelabra and the like, or just use simple table centrepieces, you can be assured that your Wedding Breakfast will be memorable for both the setting and the food and drink.
When your Wedding Breakfast, speeches and toasts are finished, the caterers will remove some of the tables and chairs to create a dance floor at one end of the Long Gallery. The choice is yours as to whether you dance to a disco or a live band – or a ceilidh. In the interests of our neighbours we require that music finishes at midnight.
Make it Your Own
Decorate the wide shallow stairs up to the Gallery with fairy lights and flowers, butterflies or bows. Continue the fairy lights right up to the balcony area, from where you look down to the Gallery, this balcony is great as a chill out area.
There is a spacious bar area in the entrance and lots of room for message books, post boxes or a vintage suitcase – all ways of letting your guests leave you messages of good wishes on your special day.
Bouquet Garni can provide easels for your table plan. Usually the double doors remain closed until the newly married couple make their way in for their wedding breakfast, under a shower of confetti thrown by guests standing along the stairs up to the balcony. A fabulous photo opportunity.
Winter Wedding Receptions
Layer Marney Tower is a fabulous location for a winter wedding. During the month of December we have a large tastefully decorated Christmas tree that shimmers with fairy lights and adds a festive touch.
January, February and March are traditionally less popular months in which to hold a wedding. But with the fire blazing, candles flickering on the tables and the aroma of a traditional punch, there can be few places more warm and welcoming than the Long Gallery at Layer Marney Tower. It should be noted that Wedding Receptions in January, February and March represent excellent value.
The Long Gallery
The Long Gallery is situated to the south of the Retainers’ Courtyard from where it projects into the formal gardens. The principle entrance has a magnificent staircase leading into the gallery itself – a large oak floored room some 24m x 5.8m with a grand Jacobean fireplace and Edwardian panelling.
There are excellent kitchens, lavatories and a state of the art, recently installed, biomass boiler which means that the Gallery is suitable for all year round use. The views from the large windows reach to the Blackwater Estuary. Light floods in through these same windows, bathing the room with a bright and airy atmosphere.
The Tower is floodlit at night, the Retainers’ Courtyard is illuminated and there are plenty of 13 amp sockets throughout the Long Gallery.
Everyone was so good and keen to help. It felt very personal having the owners involved and even driving the bus, which was great fun.
