Staying at Layer Marney Tower is great fun – you can either stay in the Edwardian folly known as the Tea House or you may try glamping (glamour camping) under canvas in one of our luxurious encampments.

The Tea House

The Tea House is an Edwardian folly in the grounds of Layer Marney Tower. It was built by the de Zoete family, who used to walk the 300 yards from the Tower to the Tea House where they would be served afternoon tea. Recently converted to create a luxurious holiday cottage, the Tea House accommodation is conveniently located on one level. Guests will enjoy the spacious sitting/dining room with a log burning stove, original exposed oak beams, polished mahogany floors and commanding views.

The Tea House sleeps four people.

Glamping Essex

There are six luxurious tented encampments in the grounds of Layer Marney Tower each named after one of the wives of Henry VIII. Your stay will be under the sort of capacious canvas that graced the African plains during the reign of Queen Victoria. Each encampment has a main tent sleeping up to 6 people in comfortable beds, there is a plumbed in loo, cold running water to the kitchen sink, and electricity comes from a battery charged by you through a static bicycle. There is a discovery tent, containing a telescope, field telephones, art equipment, and a library of reference books, a microscope and two camp beds for extra visitors. Each tent has a shower (hot water for which is transported by a barrel on wheels) and there is a hugely popular hot tub and wood burning stoves for cooking.
