Future

Layer Marney Tower is an old building, made by craftsmen and must be maintained with skill. It is never in a perfect state of repair and can not be repaired in the same way as a modern house built with modern materials. We work with specialist suppliers and craftspeople to “do a proper job”. The future aim is to allow more people to get involved with this unique and beautiful place.

Layer Marney Tower’s sustainability

Layer Marney Tower and its 120 acre Estate must keep evolving if it is to survive.

The Essex Barn in the Courtyard has been major project through 2020. This project is funded by the Culture Recovery Fund for Heritage. The Culture Recovery Fund is being delivered by The National Lottery Heritage Fund and Historic England, using funds provided by the Department for Digital, Culture, Media and Sport.

The Heritage Recovery Fund has allowed us to open the space up for all sorts of fun Activities.

We are always looking at way of running the place on a more sustainable long term footing. We are looking at establishing more ponds, rough grassland and improving the hedgerows.

Our single overarching ambition to to make Layer Marney Tower self financing to ensure its long term survival.
